Mats-speak(2)

Mats' vocabulary is expanding quickly now! His latest words:

1) UP = up! I didn't realize that he was actually saying anyhing because Joost and I always speak to Mats in Dutch, it just didn't dawn on me he was speaking English, until we left him with friends of ours (seasoned parents with a 17-month old son) and they reported that he was saying "up". At that moment, I realized he'd been saying it for a few days....I just hadn't realized it.

2) Nana = banana - Mats' all-time favorite, this word might prove to be more hassle than help since he ALWAYS wants a banana. And yes, that little bugger can pack away an entire banana and still want MORE, which brings us to....

3) me = melk &/or more

And as for the philosophy that kids only master one thing at a time, I'm not sure if it's true, because after weeks of very modest progress on the walking front, he has finally hit the point where I would say he walks >50% of the time. Maybe in those weeks of stand-still he was actually learning the above words and in my Dutch frame of mind, I just assumed they were gibberish. Who knows.
