Mommy polish

Sometimes I swear that Mats is a little slow on the uptake. I can tell him some things a hundred times and he still doesn't get it right. For example, practicing colors:

ME (showing Mats a red object): "what color is this?"
MJK: "blue"*
ME: "no, it's red"
MJK: "red"

20 minutes later

ME (showing Mats a different red object): "what color is this?"
MJK: "blue"

Then the very same day, the same kid will turn around and create his own surprisingly insightful combinations that I can pretty much guarantee he didn't pick up from me. The other day, he got into my makeup bag (yes, it's a recurring theme, and no, I never learn). When Joost asked him what he had, he responded "Mama poets" (="mommy polish")....that would be deoderant to you or me. Although I might have to start calling it mommy polish. It's got a nice ring to it.


*note: in Dutch everything is by default blue; in English everything is by default yellow. Figure that one out.
